I am using pidgin as\u00a0 chat client for both yahoo and gtalk. Recently, yahoo has stopped support for older versions of their own yahoo messenger clients. ( anything less than version 7.5\u00a0 fails ) . It also means that most of the third party clients such as pidgin has\u00a0 problems\u00a0 in login.<\/p>\n
On my ubuntu 9.04, the default\u00a0 pidgin version is\u00a0 2.5.5.\u00a0\u00a0 You can work around the yahoo login problem\u00a0 as shown below.<\/p>\n
Open Accounts-> Manage accounts.<\/p>\n
Click on the account you want to\u00a0 fix<\/p>\n
Click on modify.<\/p>\n
Click on advanced tab.<\/p>\n
The pager server is set to\u00a0 scs.msg.yahoo.com<\/p>\n
Change it to \u00a0\u00a0 cs101.msg.mud.yahoo.com<\/p>\n
Click on Save<\/p>\n
Restart\u00a0 pidgin<\/p>\n
It seems yahoo is\u00a0 rolling out a new authentication protocol. Let us wait for\u00a0 a new pidgin\u00a0 update<\/p>\n
Update: <\/strong><\/p>\n Pidgin 2.5.7 which fixes the yahoo login problem is out. You can install it as given below.<\/p>\n Import the\u00a0 public key\u00a0 for Launchpad PPA for Pidgin Developers<\/p>\n $ sudo apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com \\ \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a067265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8<\/p>\n Add the following lines to \/etc\/apt\/sources.list<\/p>\n deb http:\/\/ppa.launchpad.net\/pidgin-developers\/ppa\/ubuntu\u00a0\u00a0 jaunty main<\/p>\n Run apt-get update and apt-get install pidgin.<\/p>\n The PPA contains new pidgin releases for other versions of ubuntu (\u00a0 dapper gutsy, hardy ,intrepid and karmic) You can just replace jaunty in sources.list line indicating this ppa with you distro and enjoy yahoo messenger on pidgin.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I am using pidgin as\u00a0 chat client for both yahoo and gtalk.
