This\u00a0 is 2 weeks <a href=\"http:\/\/cdachyd.in\/future\/\" target=\"_blank\">faculty updation program<\/a> named Prepare future. I am attending <a href=\"http:\/\/cdachyd.in\/future\/ss.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Linux internals and driver development<\/a> under system software track.<\/p>\n<p>The course syllabus looks pretty impressive as given below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Introduction to Linux System Programming<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Linux Architecture<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Linux Shell<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> GNU Tool Chain (GCC, GDB, MAKE, GPROF &amp; GCONV)<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> System Calls and Working with Files<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Linux Environment<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Process Management &amp; IPC<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> POSIX Compliant Thread Programming<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Socket Programming<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Linux Kernel Programming and Module Programming<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Character Drivers<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Concurrency, Race Conditions &amp; IOCTL<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Timers &amp; Character Drivers<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Block Drivers &amp; Network Drivers<\/li>\n<li class=\"style66 style65\"> Introduction to USB Drivers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The course started today with an introduction to Linux architecture, system calls and programming interface. There\u00a0 was nothing new to me, but I enjoyed the lecture by Ms Lakshmi\u00a0 as\u00a0 it refreshed my ideas about several concepts.\u00a0\u00a0 The second session was an introduction to shell,gcc and make.\u00a0 It was not\u00a0 a perfect lecture and the inexperience of the faculty was quite visible.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon was spent in the lab., with exercises on gcc make and gdb.\u00a0 The lab sessions are held on\u00a0 OpenSuse. In fact I am using it for the first time. As a long time debian user I have some discomfort.May be I will catch up by tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>The interesting thing about the program is that I have an option to sit in the lab as long as I like.\u00a0 I feel like I was in CUSAT computer science department.<\/p>\n<p>There are nearly 15 other participants. Most of them are from research organisations like CDAC , DRDO and DOE.\u00a0 Even though the course is for faculty updation\u00a0 I don&#8217;t find many faculty members attending the training.
